On the basis of a comparative analysis between Nietzsche's Third extemporary consideration entitled “Schopenhauer as an educator” and the chapter of Parerga and Paralipomena dedicated to the universitarian philosophy, this article aims to show that the nietzschean writing, nothithstanding all the theoretic differences it reveals in regard to Schopenhauer`s thinking, presents a conception of philosophy that is in accordance to that very thinking. It is also argued tha this conception of philosophy does not restrain itself to the first phase of Nietzsche’s production, a fact that I try to indicate by briefly taking into consideration the figure of the free spirit, as it is presented in Human, all too human I
